Getting to know Angela Wallace

Meet Angela Wallace, our Centre and Operations Manager at TSPC, who brings over 25 years of experience in the housing industry.

From her humble beginnings as a part-time front office assistant to her current role at TSPC, Angela has witnessed and contributed to the evolution of the property sector.

In this article, Angela shares her journey and perspectives on the property market, along with some personal insights into her life.

How long have you been working in the property industry?

I've dedicated over 25 years to the property industry, initially starting as a part-time front office assistant. At that time, advancing into senior management roles as a woman was challenging, and I'm proud to have done it. Fortunately, the landscape has evolved significantly since then, and I'm pleased to see greater opportunities for women in leadership roles today.

TSPC’s motto for 2024 is ‘MORE’. What do you offer buyers and sellers that is different from competitors?

In 2024, TSPC's motto is 'MORE,' reflecting our commitment to providing enhanced services for both buyers and sellers. What sets us apart from competitors is our unique approach as a property portal with solicitor-based members regulated by the Law Society of Scotland.

Having both your agent and conveyancer within one company streamlines the process of sale or purchase, offering greater assurance that regulations are followed.

Additionally, we exclusively market the largest selection of local properties on the market, providing buyers and sellers with MORE choice, MORE local knowledge, and MORE expertise to facilitate their property transactions seamlessly.

What does 2024 look like for the property market?

In 2024, the property market is off to a robust start, buoyed by decreasing interest rates that are instilling confidence among buyers and sellers alike. As we anticipate a general election, it's anticipated that the government will roll out concessions, often in the form of reductions in Land and Buildings Transaction Tax (LBTT), aiming to sway voters. Additionally, 'proof of rent' mortgage deals are providing valuable support to first-time buyers, facilitating their entry into the market.

What’s your dream home?

I am lucky to live in my dream home now. I set a goal to downsize to a cottage in a small village and I bought one five years ago. I have completely transformed it, including  building a bar in the garden during lockdown.

What would you do if you won £10 million?

If I were to win £10 million, the first step would be to secure the services of a trusted wealth manager. With a large family to consider, ensuring their financial stability would be a priority. Additionally, I would establish a charity to give back to the community and support causes close to my heart. Lastly, I would indulge in travelling and exploring the world.

If you could do any other job for a day, what would it be and why?

A product inventor. I invent things on a regular basis, even coming up with catchy names and marketing campaigns, only to find that there is a good reason that they are not available in the marketplace or, worse still, they’ve been around for years. One day, though, my creativity will win - even if it doesn’t make me millions.

What or who inspires you?

I feel inspired by nature, music, cooking, people, and random acts of kindness.

What’s your dream holiday destination?

It’s got to be the Scottish Highlands (minus the midges). I love the scenery, tranquility and the fantastic walks.

What makes you happy?

I love my family and my friends. They give me joy, especially my grandchildren. I am very happy wielding power tools and doing DIY. I am a mean tiler, floor fitter and decorator. Most women can draw lipstick or perfume from their bag – for me it’s a screwdriver or a tape measure.

If you could rule Scotland for a day what would you would do?

I would bring together all parties and have them eliminate egos, mandates and agendas and work together as human beings for the greater good of Scotland.

Do you believe in love at first sight?

Yes. I fell in love with my husband of 33 years at first sight.  I still remember the impact the first time my eyes met his.

Most embarrassing moment?

During a by-election I had David Cameron, then Prime Minister, coming into my office for a chat about property and business. The experience was exciting, with security, press, tv coverage and lots of interest from the locals. 

He stayed for some time, and we had a good old chat in front of the TV cameras, which was aired on that evening’s news. I told everyone I was going to be on the news but when it was aired, I had three seconds of airtime, nodding my head and saying: “oh yes”.  I was the butt of the jokes with my family greeting me with “oh yes” in slow motion. If you are familiar with Gavin and Stacey, I resemble Mick when he was on the news - I saw the very funny side.

What’s the best advice you’ve ever received and who did it come from?

My mother always told me “this too will pass”.  You can be at your lowest and time will help you heal or you can be at your highest and shouldn’t take it for granted. Time moves on, things change and everything passes.

If you could give advice to your younger self what would it be?

Always put family above all else. Do not let other people’s opinion of you be your problem. Always act with kindness and be non-judgmental. Let hurt heal and learn lessons from it. Make every day count.

What do you hope to achieve in 2024?

This year I hope to achieve the Board’s goals for the TSPC, to embrace new challenges, to take on another personal development course and to spend quality time with family and friends.

I also hope to do good in the village where I live after becoming a member of the community council.
