BUYING INTO LIFE ON THE WATERFRONT

IT is being hailed among the most exciting waterfront projects in Europe.

While the official opening of the eagerly awaited V&A Museum of Design in September will mark a major milestone and provide Dundee with an iconic building and tourist magnet, the greater Waterfront project spans 30 years and 240 acres of riverside land.

The overall development will carry a £1 billion price tag, with £750 million investment already secured as huge tracts of land by the River Tay undergo a remarkable transformation.

Alongside the smart new hotels, restaurants, cafes, bars, offices, gardens and a transformed railway station are many apartments, both new-build and tasteful conversions breathing life into long redundant dockside buildings recalling the city’s rich industrial heritage.

Quayside Mews saw the conversion of an old dock building and the 130-year-old A-listed Clocktower landmark now boasts a dozen high quality apartments. The City Quay, meanwhile, sees 120 affordable homes added to the mix, emphasising that the Waterfront is very much a place to live, work and play.

Locals and visitors to the city can’t help but be impressed by the ongoing developments transforming huge tracts of riverside land stretching all of 8km.

Slessor Gardens is in line for another memorable summer of entertainment, with  Simple Minds and The Pretenders performing over the next few months.
