Exciting Times for City of Discovery
28 March 2016
DUNDEE is looking to the river to mould its future, with the exciting Waterfront Development accompanied by an estimated 1 BILLION price tag. The River Tay and its expansive estuary have always played an integral role in the trade and economic life of the city. Plans for the five zone Waterfront include everything from the eagerly anticipated V & A Museum of Design to a transformed railway station with work on the framework commencing later in the year, new marina, improved road network, hotels and more smart apartments. An area tagged Dundee's front lawn the new Slessor Gardens has even been identified for hosting the occasional high profile pop concert. The land package being transformed spans 240 acres, with 8km looking across the Tay towards the coast of north east Fife. Much of the basic infrastructure is already in place.
Lynne Hill, manager at the Tayside Solicitors Property Centre, said: “These are exciting times for Dundee as we are already seeing the grid pattern of streets and pavements taking shape.
“This is one of the biggest riverfront regeneration projects Scotland has ever seen and it will be fascinating to see it unfold in the months and years ahead.
“There will be plenty more to come and we are reporting contemporary apartments being snapped-up, with many attracting reservations well in advance of completion dates.
“I suspect buyers are also buying into a potential lifestyle, with the marina, hotels, bars, cafes and offices sure to attract locals as well as visitors.
“We are seeing demand for properties in and around the city centre from younger buyers, in particular.
“Obviously the opening of the V&A in 2018 will be a major milestone for the Waterfront but there are already key indicators of a city undergoing ambitious regeneration.”
