IT’S widely regarded as one of Britain’s up and coming cities.
The image of Dundee has undergone a dramatic transformation in recent years and the brakes certainly won’t be applied to the speed of change any time soon.
Arguably the most exciting development in the pipeline is the £45 million V&A Museum which is anticipated as part of a broader £1 billion project down by the waterfront.
New hotels are also planned to handle the anticipated upsurge in demand from tourists and the business community for bed space.
One that is expected to open its doors in 2013 is the smart four-star Malmaison, which will breathe fresh life into the vacant listed building that once housed the Tay Hotel. It will be very close to the museum and The Discovery tourist magnet.
Peter Ryder, manager at the Tayside Solicitors Property Centre, has witnessed the ambitious plans coming forward for a new-look waterfront taking advantage of a spectacular setting on the banks of the River Tay.
“These are exciting times for the city, there’s no doubt about that,” he declared. “There is plenty to look forward to in Dundee.”
He noted that the new projects are being constructed on a solid base created over many years.
“There is a quiet air of self-confidence to be detected in the city these days,” said Peter.
The TSPC manager noted that the property market had ridden out the recession and was in better shape than many cities had reported the length and breadth of Britain.
He noted: “Dundee has first class universities and colleges, which create a demand for property and a fluid population. The treatment and research facilities at Ninewells Hospital are also the envy of many cities and Dundee now boats a variety of top class medical research centres.
“Dundee’s location is also a winner with all manner of house buyers. It is within easy access of top golf courses, including Open venues at St Andrews and Carnoustie, while culture is catered for in the shape of the McManus Galleries, the Sensation Science Museum, the Verdant Works and the Dundee Rep.”
